Fuel Cell Solar Combined Heat and Power

The high-temperature fuel cell Solar system operates parallel to the grid as a replacement for traditional furnaces and boilers in residential and light commercial applications. The combined heat and power (CHP) system runs on natural gas or hydrogen(H2) at a temperature between 160° C and 180° C, making it compatible with existing home heating systems – working seamlessly with radiant, forced air or baseboard hot water.

The high-quality heat generated by the Fuel Cell can meet the full heating needs of a home while supplementing the electrical load. The remaining electrical load can be completely eliminated with a Solar power system.

Changes to LIPA’s Solar Pioneer Program Effective August 16, 2010

Please see below for changes to LIPA's solar rebate structure. These changes have been made in consultation with the Long Island Solar Industry Association.

Highlights

The rebate level is now at $1.75/watt
There will be two (2) 500kW blocks for the Solar Pioneer Program. The first block will be effective August 16, 2010, after 5PM and all applications submitted after this date and time will be at $1.75/watt. Once the 500 kW block is used up, no future applications will be approved. On October 1, 2010, an additional 500 kW block will be made available for the program at $1.75/watt. Once this block is used up, no future applications will be approved.

The Solar Rebate Blocks will be tracked and updated on the LIPA web site on a weekly basis.

Guidelines

Only applications that are complete will be pre-approved
Complete applications must include 2 copies of the PGA, a one-line diagram, Google Map Satellite view and a $100 application fee.
A tolerance of up to 10% of the MW block will be set to accommodate applications.

Why these changes occurred
While LIPA has increased its investment in its solar programs, the declining cost of installation, unprecedented demand for solar systems and continued federal, state and local tax incentives provide LIPA the opportunity to once again adjust its rebate structure to keep it in line with the ever changing solar market. Since 2000, solar customers have seen a decline in the amount of investment needed to participate in solar energy.
