Integrating LED Lighting with Solar Electric Vehicle Chargers

From Volkswagen to General Motors, automakers are preparing for the revolution of electric vehicles. During this era, fleets will transition from gas-powered cars to electrified vehicles.

Unlike traditional gas-powered vehicles that require refueling at gas stations, electric units rely on charging hubs to refill battery packs. Currently, many car companies are developing infrastructural components associated with EV charging stations.

    Solar EV Charging Hubs

In far-flung locations, deploying EV charging hubs is costly and time consuming. In order to reduce costs associated with connection to local grids, some businesses are setting up solar-powered EV charging stations. This type of sustainable charging unit can be found in highway rest stops, parking lots and even traditional gas stations.

The charging stations must be able to cater to EV owners 24/7. Because of this, LED lights should be installed for individuals charging their vehicles at night.

    LED Lighting for EV Charging

There are numerous sections of the EV charging station, wherein LED lights can be installed for robust illumination. Solar EV charging stations are usually covered with a roof, to protect the vehicle from intense heat during the afternoon. At night, such protective covers are not required, since the system is leveraging power from its battery packs and the panels are dormant.

Linear LED lighting installed under the canopy area are ideal for general illumination. Conventional LED street lamps on poles may also be installed in the location for safety and security. Motion sensors on the fixtures could be added for automated illumination and energy savings, since the LED lights will also be powered via the battery pack.

LED bollard lights next to the EV charging panel are suitable for supporting charging-related activities. For example, individuals must find the correct plug and input charging preferences on the panel, as well as provide payment for the service.…
